What's Happening?
ITOCHU Corporation has announced its decision to participate in the joint management of Aviation Capital Group LLC (ACG), a leading aircraft leasing company based in the United States. This move involves acquiring a 50% equity interest in TC Skyward Aviation U.S.,
Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo Century Corporation. The transaction, valued at approximately $1,946 million, aims to transition ACG to a joint management structure. ITOCHU expects the aircraft leasing market to grow, driven by increasing air passenger demand, and sees this investment as a strategic expansion of its aerospace business. ACG, established in 1989, is ranked ninth globally in aircraft leasing, with a portfolio focused on new-generation aircraft.
Why It's Important?
The participation of ITOCHU in the joint management of ACG signifies a strategic expansion into the growing aircraft leasing market, which is expected to benefit from long-term increases in air travel demand. This move strengthens ITOCHU's position in the aerospace sector, potentially enhancing its revenue streams and market influence. The collaboration with Tokyo Century Corporation also highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in expanding business operations and financial stability. The investment in ACG could lead to increased competition in the aircraft leasing industry, potentially affecting market dynamics and pricing strategies.
What's Next?
ITOCHU plans to complete its investment in ACG by the third quarter of FY2026, following necessary approvals. The company aims to enhance ACG's aircraft portfolio and expand its business scale, positioning ACG as a core platform for its aerospace business. This strategic move is expected to establish a new earnings platform for ITOCHU, with potential synergies from its partnership with Tokyo Century. The focus will be on leveraging the aircraft value chains of both companies to strengthen their presence in the aviation industry.
