What's Happening?
The Country Music Association (CMA) has announced the latest cohort for its Women's Leadership Academy (WLA), a program designed to develop leadership skills among women in the country music industry. Now in its fifth year, the WLA has expanded its focus
from professional development to creating a lasting network of women leaders. This year, a record number of women applied, highlighting the growing interest and talent within the industry. The program began with an opening reception on August 2 at The Chloe Nashville, where CMA CEO Sarah Trahern and Senior Vice President Tiffany Kerns addressed the participants. Over the next 12 weeks, 16 women will engage in weekly group coaching, peer connections, and leadership training. The program aims to provide participants with skills in personal branding, career advancement, conflict management, and more, under the guidance of executive coaches Lisa Gamble and Nicole Provonchee.
Why It's Important?
The Women's Leadership Academy is significant as it addresses the gender gap in leadership roles within the country music industry. By equipping women with essential leadership skills and fostering a supportive network, the program aims to empower participants to take on more influential roles. This initiative not only benefits the individual participants but also contributes to a more diverse and inclusive industry. As these women advance in their careers, they are likely to influence the industry positively, promoting gender equality and inspiring future generations of women leaders. The establishment of the WLA Alumni Network further extends the program's impact, providing ongoing support and collaboration opportunities for nearly 80 alumni, which can lead to sustained change in the industry.
What's Next?
As the program progresses, participants will set personal and professional goals to guide their experience. The curriculum will cover various leadership topics, helping them develop clarity, impact, and resilience. The launch of the WLA Alumni Network will provide a platform for continued mentorship and professional development, ensuring that the program's benefits extend beyond the initial 12 weeks. This network will facilitate ongoing connections and collaborations among alumni, potentially leading to new initiatives and projects that further strengthen the country music industry.
