What's Happening?
KIND Snacks has successfully scaled regenerative agriculture practices across its almond supply chain through the KIND Almond Acres Initiative. Launched three years ago in partnership with olam food ingredients (ofi), the initiative aimed to enhance soil
health, resource efficiency, and on-farm resilience. As of 2026, 50% of KIND's almond volume is sourced from farms using regenerative practices. This initiative is part of KIND's commitment to sourcing 100% of its almonds from regenerative farms by 2030. The program has demonstrated significant environmental benefits, including improved water management, reduced nitrogen fertilizer use, and decreased carbon intensity.
Why It's Important?
KIND Snacks' adoption of regenerative agriculture practices is a significant step towards sustainable food production. By improving soil health and reducing resource use, the company is contributing to environmental conservation while maintaining commercial viability. This initiative sets a precedent for other companies in the food industry to adopt similar practices, potentially leading to widespread environmental benefits. As one of North America's largest almond buyers, KIND's efforts could influence the broader almond industry, encouraging more sustainable farming practices and reducing the environmental impact of almond production.
What's Next?
Following the success of the pilot program, KIND Snacks plans to expand its regenerative agriculture practices to cover its entire almond supply chain by 2030. The company will continue to collaborate with ofi and other partners to refine and implement effective farming techniques. As KIND moves towards large-scale implementation, it will likely focus on further improving ingredient quality and resilience. The initiative's success may also inspire other food companies to adopt regenerative agriculture, potentially leading to industry-wide changes in sourcing practices.
