Darren Thao of Woodman’s Food Market in Green Bay has been named Wisconsin’s 'Best Bagger' at the Great Wisconsin Bag-Off Championship. The competition, organized by the Wisconsin Grocers Association (WGA), took place on August 18 and featured 21 grocery
store baggers from across the state. Contestants were judged on several criteria, including speed, bag-building technique, weight distribution, style, attitude, and appearance, as they bagged a grocery order. Thao, a full-time bagger who graduated high school in 2022, secured the state title and will now represent Wisconsin at the National Grocers Association (NGA) Best Bagger Championship in February. The event was emceed by Anastasia Poull, the 79th Alice in Dairyland, with results certified by Baker Tilly. The national competition will be held in Las Vegas.
