What's Happening?
Indorama Ventures, a global sustainable chemical company, is supporting Thai fashion brand KH Editions in presenting its Spring/Summer 2027 collection at New York Fashion Week on September 15, 2026. This collaboration highlights circular fashion by featuring
two looks and accessories crafted from fabrics woven with deja™ recycled polyester yarn provided by Indorama Ventures. KH Editions, known for its 'Creative Streetwear' that reinterprets Thai craftsmanship with an emphasis on creating value from waste, was selected by Thailand's Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) to promote Thai fashion internationally. The initiative aims to demonstrate that recycled materials, such as used PET bottles, can be transformed into high-quality, distinctive fashion products without compromising design or functionality, aligning with the global shift towards a more circular economy. Mr. Napat Tansuwan, Co-founder and Art Director of KH Editions, emphasized that recycled materials serve as starting points for new design possibilities, a perspective developed through their participation in Indorama Ventures' RECO program since 2018.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration is significant as it showcases the potential of recycled materials in high-fashion contexts, challenging perceptions that sustainable fashion must compromise on quality or design. For the U.S. fashion market, it introduces innovative approaches to sustainability from international brands, potentially influencing domestic designers and manufacturers to adopt similar circular practices. As consumer demand for environmentally friendly products grows and regulations increasingly encourage recycled content, initiatives like this demonstrate viable pathways for the industry to transition towards more sustainable models. It also highlights the role of material science companies like Indorama Ventures in enabling this shift by providing advanced recycled materials. The presence of KH Editions at New York Fashion Week underscores the global nature of the circular economy movement and its increasing relevance in major fashion hubs, encouraging cross-cultural exchange in sustainable design and production methods.
What's Next?
Following KH Editions' showcase at New York Fashion Week, Indorama Ventures plans to launch the RECO Collective 2026 fashion show in October, marking the program's 12th edition. This event will continue to foster connections among designers, entrepreneurs, material innovators, and industry partners, aiming to explore new applications for recycled materials and expand the possibilities of circular design. The ongoing RECO program, which evolved from a young designer competition to a collective in 2023, will further support product development, brand building, and market readiness for designers utilizing sustainable materials. This continuous engagement suggests a sustained effort by Indorama Ventures to drive innovation and collaboration within the circular fashion ecosystem, both in Thailand and potentially influencing global markets through continued showcases and partnerships.
Beyond the Headlines
This initiative extends beyond a simple fashion show; it represents a broader movement towards integrating sustainability into the core of the fashion industry. The use of recycled polyester yarn from PET bottles highlights the potential for waste transformation and resource efficiency, addressing critical environmental concerns associated with textile production. Ethically, it promotes responsible consumption and production by demonstrating that fashion can be both desirable and sustainable. Legally, as regulations in various markets increasingly mandate recycled content and circular practices, such collaborations serve as practical examples of compliance and innovation. Culturally, showcasing Thai craftsmanship reinterpreted through sustainable streetwear on a global stage like New York Fashion Week fosters a dialogue about diverse approaches to fashion and sustainability, potentially inspiring a wider adoption of circular principles across different cultural contexts and design philosophies.
