What's Happening?
Chicago Rockford International Airport has climbed to its highest position yet in the Federal Aviation Administration's cargo rankings, now standing at No. 12 in the United States by landed cargo weight. This improvement from its previous No. 14 ranking is attributed
to a 9.21% increase in cargo volume from 2024 to 2025. The airport's continuous service, dedicated cargo teams, and scalable operations have been key factors in its growth. Additionally, a new partnership with cargo company DSV will introduce weekly service between Luxembourg and Rockford, further enhancing its international connectivity.
Why It's Important?
The rise in Rockford Airport's cargo ranking underscores its growing importance as a logistics hub in the U.S. The airport's ability to handle increasing cargo volumes efficiently positions it as a critical player in the supply chain, benefiting airlines, freight forwarders, and logistics providers. This growth not only boosts the local economy but also strengthens the airport's role in connecting international markets. The expansion of services and partnerships, such as with DSV, highlights the airport's strategic focus on enhancing its global reach and operational capabilities.
