Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) is actively promoting skilled trades as viable career paths to address the demand for qualified workers in Northeastern Pennsylvania. LCCC President John Yudichak emphasizes that skilled trade careers offer competitive
wages, opportunities for advancement, and long-term stability, challenging the misconception that they lack strong earning potential. The college provides hands-on education, industry partnerships, certifications, and career-focused programs in various high-demand fields such as CDL and transportation, HVAC, welding, electrical, plumbing, and medical assisting. LCCC's approach aims to provide affordable and accessible education that directly connects students with workforce opportunities, offering certificates, industry credentials, technical training, and associate degrees tailored to regional workforce demands. Recent initiatives include a partnership with the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges to advance PAWorks, a skilled trades workforce ecosystem, and the launch of its Career & Technology Academy, providing post-secondary opportunities for over 2,000 Career and Technical Education students.
