What's Happening?
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is at the forefront of nuclear fusion technology, having attracted significant investment to develop a commercial nuclear fusion reactor. The company has raised nearly $3 billion, with plans to launch its Sparc reactor by
2026 or 2027. This reactor uses a tokamak design with high-temperature superconducting magnets to contain superheated plasma, converting the resulting heat into electricity. The project has garnered interest from tech giants like Google, which plans to purchase half of the energy produced by CFS's future Arc plant.
