What's Happening?
Diehl Aviation, a German aerospace supplier, has inaugurated a new production facility in Craiova, Romania, as part of its strategy to expand its European manufacturing network for commercial aircraft components. The plant, which represents a mid-double-digit
million euro investment, spans over 12,000 square meters and is set to begin production in autumn 2026. Initially employing 75 people, Diehl Aviation plans to increase the workforce to 500 over time. The facility will manufacture composite cabin components, insulation blankets, and tanks for aircraft water and waste systems, supporting the company's existing production sites in Germany, Hungary, and Mexico.
Why It's Important?
The opening of the Craiova plant is a significant development for Diehl Aviation, enhancing its ability to meet increasing demand from the aerospace industry. By expanding its manufacturing footprint in Europe, Diehl Aviation can better support customer production ramp-ups and improve operational flexibility. The investment also underscores the company's commitment to sustainable practices, with the facility being fully electrified and equipped with a photovoltaic system to increase renewable energy use. This expansion not only strengthens Diehl Aviation's position as a key supplier in the aerospace sector but also contributes to the economic development of the region by creating new jobs and fostering local expertise.
