A recent study conducted by Juezhen Zhang at the University of Taipei in Taiwan demonstrated that a 24-week strength-training program significantly improved physical attributes in postmenopausal women aged 52 to 84. The study involved 32 women, half of whom
participated in supervised weightlifting sessions twice a week, focusing on hexagonal barbell deadlifts. The results showed that the women in the strength-training group experienced a reduction in fat mass, an increase in lean muscle mass, particularly around their midsections, and improved strength, with their maximum deadlift capacity increasing from an average of 45 to 58 kilograms. Furthermore, participants exhibited better balance and mobility, as evidenced by reduced wobbling while standing with eyes closed and increased walking distances in a six-minute test. The study reported an exceptional training attendance rate of 89.6% and no adverse events, suggesting the program's safety and feasibility.
