What's Happening?
The Kansas City Royals have activated first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino from the injured list after he missed over three weeks due to a fractured right hamate bone. Pasquantino sustained the injury on June 13 during a swing. Despite not being in the lineup
for the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, he is available to pinch hit. Manager Matt Quatraro noted Pasquantino's determination to return before the All-Star break, which required significant effort. In his rehabilitation games with Triple-A Omaha, Pasquantino went 4-for-11 with three walks and an RBI. He expressed confidence in his recovery, stating that his hand feels normal with minimal soreness. This season, Pasquantino is hitting .224 with six home runs and 32 RBIs. Last year, he led the Royals with career highs in home runs and RBIs. The Royals also made roster adjustments by recalling right-hander Eli Morgan and optioning outfielder Kameron Misner and pitcher Jose Cuas to Triple-A Omaha.
Why It's Important?
Pasquantino's return is significant for the Royals as they aim to improve their performance in the second half of the season. His previous year's performance, where he led the team in home runs and RBIs, highlights his potential impact on the team's offensive capabilities. The Royals are currently looking to strengthen their lineup, and Pasquantino's presence could provide the necessary boost. Additionally, the roster changes, including the recall of Eli Morgan, suggest strategic adjustments as the team navigates injuries and seeks to optimize their pitching staff. These moves are crucial as the Royals aim to climb the standings and compete more effectively in the league.
