Cornell University has launched and expanded MeatSuite, a free online platform designed to connect local meat producers with consumers in New York and North Carolina. The initiative, spearheaded by Matthew LeRoux, an extension associate with the Dyson
School of Applied Economics and Management, aims to make it easier for consumers to purchase meat in bulk directly from farmers. MeatSuite allows users to enter their ZIP code to find nearby producers and provides tools, including the new Meat Math Wizard, to help customers understand bulk purchasing quantities and potential cost savings. The platform has seen significant growth, with 30,000 visitors from New York and 34,000 from North Carolina in the past year, doubling previous traffic. This increase reflects a growing interest in local food and affordability, especially as economic conditions lead consumers to seek ways to lower grocery bills.
