Australian Rare Earths has announced the discovery of a niobium-rare earth carbonatite mineral system at its Overland Project in South Australia. This discovery was made during a drilling program initially aimed at exploring uranium targets. The drill hole
OV167 intersected significant mineralization, including 0.61% total rare earth oxides (TREO) and notable concentrations of neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium oxides. The presence of pyrochlore, a major niobium ore mineral, was confirmed through petrographic and scanning electron microscope assessments. The discovery suggests the potential for a larger, untested carbonatite system, which could be a significant source of rare earth elements and niobium.
