Legacy Minerals (ASX: LGM) is advancing its NiCo Young Project in New South Wales, Australia, with an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) expected by October 2026. This MRE will, for the first time, include scandium alongside nickel and cobalt, reflecting
a broader industry trend of revisiting existing deposits for critical minerals. The project currently hosts a substantial contained nickel and cobalt resource base, with the existing inferred mineral resource standing at 167.8 million tonnes at 0.59% nickel and 0.06% cobalt, amounting to 996.7 kilotonnes of nickel and 96.6 kilotonnes of cobalt. The project is located within the Lachlan Fold Belt, known for its significant nickel-cobalt laterite deposits. Legacy Minerals has engaged WSP Australia, an independent engineering and technical consultancy, to complete the updated estimate, which will be reported under the JORC Code 2012 framework. The company has acknowledged that while scandium has been recognized at NiCo Young since 2011, its formal assessment and inclusion in the MRE is a new development, and there is no guarantee a scandium resource will ultimately be able to be reported under JORC classification standards.
