What's Happening?
Expedia Group has released a new study indicating that hotels with full connectivity experience significant improvements in revenue and operational efficiency. The research surveyed 1,500 hotel decision-makers across six markets, revealing that fully
connected properties are 31 points more likely to report enhanced occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), or revenue per available room (RevPAR) compared to those with basic connectivity. The study highlights that 81% of fully connected hotels report improved business performance and reduced operational friction. The findings suggest that connectivity allows hotels to automate workflows, streamline operations, and reduce manual tasks, thereby enhancing profitability and operational confidence.
Why It's Important?
The findings underscore the critical role of technology in the hospitality industry, particularly as travel distribution becomes more complex. By adopting full connectivity, hotels can better manage their inventory and pricing, leading to increased revenue and efficiency. This technological advancement is crucial for hotels to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market. The study also highlights barriers to adopting connectivity, such as concerns over pricing control and limited IT resources, which need to be addressed to facilitate broader adoption. The research suggests that hotels that embrace full connectivity can significantly enhance their market position and operational capabilities.
What's Next?
Expedia Group is embarking on a three-phase initiative to further reduce operational friction for hotels through Autonomous Distribution. This includes Autonomous Onboarding, which will enable properties to go live quickly, Autonomous Management to streamline daily operations, and Autonomous Optimization to enhance performance through promotional strategies. These steps aim to support hotels in achieving full connectivity, thereby maximizing their operational and financial potential. As more hotels adopt these technologies, the industry may see a shift towards more automated and efficient operations, potentially setting new standards for hotel management.
