What's Happening?
AM Best has assigned a Long-Term Issue Credit Rating of 'a-' (Excellent) to Sammons Financial Group, Inc.'s (SFG) $750 million 5.95% senior unsecured notes due in June 2036. The rating outlook is stable. The proceeds from this issuance will be used for
general corporate purposes, including business growth at SFG's insurance subsidiaries, Midland National Life Insurance Company and North American Company for Life and Health Insurance. This issuance will increase SFG's adjusted financial leverage to approximately 22.5% from 18.6% at the end of 2025. Despite this increase, interest coverage is expected to remain favorable, and SFG maintains sufficient liquidity to service its debt.
Why It's Important?
The assignment of a credit rating to SFG's new notes is significant as it reflects the company's financial health and its ability to meet debt obligations. A stable outlook suggests confidence in SFG's financial strategies and operations. The increase in financial leverage indicates a strategic move to support business growth, which could enhance the company's market position. However, it also implies a higher debt burden, which requires careful management to avoid potential financial strain. The insurance industry stakeholders, including investors and policyholders, will closely monitor SFG's financial performance and leverage management.
