A recent study conducted by Ryder indicates that 64% of online shoppers are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in finding and comparing products before making a purchase. The study, which surveyed over 1,100 shoppers, found that consumers
prioritize convenience, delivery speed, and flexible return options. Among the AI tools, search and shopping assistants are the most adopted, with 45% of users, followed by customer review summaries at 37%. Visual or image-based search, voice assistants, and virtual try-on or visualization tools also showed significant usage. Jeff Wolpov, Ryder Senior Vice President of E-commerce and Ryder Last Mile, noted that AI is fundamentally altering online shopping behaviors, with nearly three in five consumers replacing traditional search engines with generative AI search. The study suggests that retailers who do not optimize their products for AI-powered search results risk losing visibility in the consumer buying journey.
