What's Happening?
Mental Health America (MHA) has announced the opening of applications for its 2026-2027 Young Leaders Council (YLC). This program targets young adults aged 18 to 25, offering them a platform to engage in national discussions on youth mental health, employment,
and financial well-being. Five participants will be selected for the nine-month program, which includes a $2,000 stipend, monthly virtual meetings, and a capstone project. Participants will also attend the Mental Health America Conference in Washington, D.C., with travel and lodging expenses covered. The program aims to address the mental health challenges young adults face due to economic pressures and evolving job markets.
Why It's Important?
The Young Leaders Council provides a unique opportunity for young adults to influence mental health policy and advocacy. By focusing on the intersection of employment, financial stability, and mental health, the program addresses critical issues affecting today's youth. Participants will gain leadership skills, network with experts, and contribute to meaningful change in mental health support systems. This initiative is particularly relevant as young adults navigate the challenges of rising living costs and the impact of artificial intelligence on job opportunities.
What's Next?
Applications for the Young Leaders Council are open until August 28, 2026. Selected participants will be notified by September 4, 2026, with the program running from September 2026 to May 2027. The program will culminate in a capstone project and participation in the Mental Health America Conference, providing a platform for young leaders to share their insights and solutions with a broader audience.
