Detroit-based interior designer Christie Kristl has transformed her kitchen with a vibrant backsplash, adding a pop of color to her 1963 home. The kitchen, updated by previous owners in 2018, lacked a backsplash, allowing Kristl to choose a design that
would stand out without being overwhelming. She selected tiles from Zia Tile in the Kelp Forest shade, initially planning to install them vertically. However, due to their length, the tiles were installed horizontally in a straight stack. The project, completed in two days at a cost of approximately $7,000, resulted in a unique and unexpected design. Kristl also personalized the space with sentimental decor, including a cutting board and toddler tower made by her father from a walnut tree at her childhood home, and artwork from her children.
