What's Happening?
The SAI Platform has officially launched the Regenerating Together Programme (RTP), a new initiative aimed at promoting regenerative agriculture across global supply chains. Supported by over 40 leading food and agriculture businesses, including major
beverage companies like Diageo, Nestlé, and Carlsberg Group, the programme seeks to scale regenerative practices. The RTP provides a framework for consistent and credible measurement of progress in regenerative agriculture, with guidance for independent verification and benchmarking. Developed over four years with input from various stakeholders, the programme covers diverse farming systems and geographies, offering a practical four-step process for implementation.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Regenerating Together Programme represents a significant step towards sustainable agriculture, with potential long-term benefits for the environment and food security. By involving major players in the food and beverage industry, the initiative aims to drive widespread adoption of regenerative practices, which can improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and reduce carbon emissions. This collaborative approach highlights the growing recognition of the need for collective action to address environmental challenges. For participating companies, the programme offers a way to enhance their sustainability credentials and meet increasing consumer demand for environmentally responsible products.
Beyond the Headlines
The programme's emphasis on independent verification and benchmarking could set new standards for transparency and accountability in the agriculture sector. As regenerative agriculture gains traction, it may influence policy decisions and encourage further investment in sustainable farming practices. The initiative also reflects a broader trend towards corporate responsibility and the integration of environmental considerations into business strategies. By fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, the RTP could serve as a model for other sectors seeking to address complex environmental issues.
