Charleston County has introduced a new Job Development Incentive program aimed at encouraging businesses to create high-paying jobs and retain local talent in the Lowcountry. The program, which began on July
1, offers eligible companies $1,000 for each qualifying job created, provided they create at least five new positions. The incentive is available to new, relocating, and expanding businesses within the county. To qualify, jobs must pay at or above the county's per capita income of $90,550 and fall within targeted industry sectors such as aerospace, automotive, life sciences, logistics, technology, and military and defense. The program is designed to complement existing state and local incentives, particularly for companies that may not qualify for larger economic development programs. The initiative also aims to provide career opportunities for graduates from local colleges and universities, thereby reducing the need for them to relocate for employment.
