What's Happening?
Savannah Resources is actively pursuing financing options for the development of its Barroso Lithium Project in Portugal. The company has engaged independent due diligence advisors and has received initial non-binding offers. It anticipates receiving
conditional project finance offers from commercial banks soon. Savannah is in discussions with KfW IPEX-Bank and Euler Hermes for a potential German Government loan guarantee and debt facility. Additionally, the company is negotiating with potential partners to secure a second offtake partnership, complementing its existing agreement with AMG Critical Materials. Non-binding letters of intent have been signed with potential offtakers for future by-product streams, indicating a demand of up to 865,000 tonnes per year. Savannah is also considering a dual listing on a regulated market to enhance investor access, expected in 2027. The company recently completed a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the project, outlining a 14-year mine life and significant economic potential.
Why It's Important?
The development of the Barroso Lithium Project is significant as it positions Savannah Resources to capitalize on the growing demand for lithium, a critical component in electric vehicle batteries. The project's potential to produce enough lithium for over seven million electric vehicles underscores its importance in the transition to renewable energy and electric mobility. The support from the Portuguese government and the European Commission enhances the project's credibility and attractiveness to investors. Successful financing and development of the project could lead to substantial economic benefits, including job creation and increased revenue for Savannah. The project's success could also strengthen Europe's position in the global lithium supply chain, reducing dependency on imports and supporting the EU's green energy goals.
What's Next?
Savannah Resources is expected to finalize financing arrangements and secure additional offtake partnerships in the coming months. The company plans to proceed with a dual listing to broaden its investor base, which is anticipated to occur in 2027. As the project progresses, Savannah will likely continue to engage with stakeholders, including government entities and potential partners, to ensure the project's successful development. The completion of financing and partnership agreements will be crucial milestones that could significantly impact the project's timeline and economic outcomes.
