What's Happening?
Hartmark, a Welsh fintech consultancy, has launched a joint venture in Shanghai, marking its first permanent establishment in Asia. This move makes Hartmark the first Welsh SME to open premises in China,
reinforcing its commitment to the Asia-Pacific market. The firm aims to bridge cultural, legal, and financial gaps between businesses in over 160 countries. With local team members in Shanghai, Hartmark plans to enhance its service to clients involved in UK-China trade, facilitating more efficient negotiations and relationships.
Why It's Important?
Hartmark's expansion into Shanghai is a significant step in strengthening UK-China trade relations. By establishing a presence in China, the firm can better serve its clients, including Chinese insurers like SINOSURE and PICC, and handle cases onshore. This move not only supports Hartmark's growth but also enhances trade connectivity between Wales and China. The expansion is expected to contribute to smoother cross-border activities, benefiting businesses on both sides by providing commercial intelligence, risk management, and recovery solutions.
What's Next?
Hartmark plans to continue its international expansion, with a projected turnover of £3 million over the next three years. The firm will maintain its headquarters in Gwynedd, North Wales, while building a local workforce and partnering with Welsh academia. This strategic growth is supported by the Welsh Government's Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme, which aims to restore trust in international trade. Hartmark's success could serve as a model for other Welsh fintech companies looking to expand globally.
