The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) has conducted a trial showcasing the potential of private 5G networks in smart manufacturing. The trial, part of the Ayrshire 5G Innovation Region programme, tested the performance of a private 5G network in a simulated
manufacturing environment. The project, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, involved NMIS, Merck, North Ayrshire Council, and Folk Consulting. The trial demonstrated that private 5G networks could provide secure, reliable, and high-capacity connectivity, essential for data-driven manufacturing environments. The network achieved average data throughput exceeding 97 Mbps, indicating its capability to support numerous industrial settings simultaneously.
