At the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, QinetiQ introduced its Helena laser source units, derived from the DragonFire laser directed energy weapon. These units are designed for various defense applications, including counter-unmanned aerial vehicle
roles and short-range air defense. The Helena technology, initially delivered to the UK's Royal Navy, is now being marketed as a standalone product. QinetiQ has invested GBP20 million to enhance production capabilities at its Farnborough and Malvern sites, aiming to integrate these units into other laser-directed energy weapon systems.
