What's Happening?
Cooke Optics has announced that its SP3 and AP3 lens series are now available for Nikon Z mount cameras. This expansion follows a licensing agreement with Nikon, allowing these high-end cinema lenses to be used natively on Nikon Z bodies and RED's Z mount lineup.
The SP3 series, launched in 2023, includes six prime lenses optimized for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The AP3 series, featuring 1.5x anamorphic lenses, complements the SP3 series. The addition of the Nikon Z mount aims to enhance compatibility and performance for filmmakers using Nikon and RED cameras.
Why It's Important?
The availability of Cooke lenses for Nikon Z mount cameras represents a significant development for filmmakers and photographers. Cooke Optics is renowned for its high-quality lenses, and this expansion increases the versatility and appeal of Nikon's mirrorless camera lineup. It also strengthens the competitive position of Nikon and RED in the professional video and photography markets. By offering native compatibility, Cooke Optics addresses potential issues with third-party adapters, ensuring optimal performance and reliability for users.
What's Next?
The Nikon Z mounts for Cooke SP3 and AP3 lenses are expected to ship in August. Filmmakers and photographers can choose Nikon Z as a secondary mount when purchasing new lenses or as an additional accessory for existing lenses. This development may prompt other lens manufacturers to consider similar expansions, further enhancing the ecosystem for mirrorless cameras. As the market for high-quality video and photography equipment grows, manufacturers will likely continue to innovate and expand compatibility to meet the demands of professionals.
