What's Happening?
C.H. Robinson, a global third-party logistics provider based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, has introduced a new digital freight tool called BidBoardX. This platform is designed to offer benefits to both shippers and carriers by providing direct access to longer-term
committed freight opportunities. For carriers, BidBoardX offers access to dependable freight and predictable revenue streams, while shippers gain a strategic carrier base and more reliable service options. Adam McDonough, Vice President for Capacity at C.H. Robinson, highlighted that the platform connects unmet supply and demand, creating significant value in the marketplace. The tool was developed internally and has been piloted successfully, showing increased engagement from carriers.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of BidBoardX is significant as it addresses the needs of both carriers and shippers in a tightening trucking market. Carriers benefit from steady, dependable freight, which is crucial as operating costs rise. Shippers, on the other hand, face challenges with route guides failing due to stricter enforcement of CDL and visa rules, leading to a reduction in available carriers. BidBoardX provides a solution by offering a more structured approach to freight management, allowing for efficient bidding and access to a competitive pool of capacity. This development could lead to more stable and predictable logistics operations, benefiting the broader supply chain industry.
What's Next?
C.H. Robinson plans to focus on increasing awareness of BidBoardX among carriers and shippers. As the truckload market continues to tighten and rates rise, the company anticipates that more shippers will seek committed freight options. The platform aims to reduce reliance on the spot market by bundling loads and covering them cost-effectively. Over time, BidBoardX is expected to evolve from a single tool to a standard market operation, enhancing the connection between carriers and shippers for predictable freight management.
