Nvidia has released a new, free, open-source software tool called Personal AI Router (PAIR), designed to link idle computers within a home network to form a personal AI data center. PAIR enables users to leverage the untapped processing power of their
various devices, including those with Nvidia GeForce GPUs (RTX 20-series and newer, RTX Pro GPUs, DGX Spark systems) and Apple's M4 chips or newer, for local AI inference tasks. The software works by discovering compatible PCs on a network, connecting them, and preparing them to handle agentic workflows, which break down complex tasks into smaller jobs. This allows for distributed processing of AI requests, preventing bottlenecks on a single GPU and adapting as devices join or leave the network. PAIR is compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS, and is secured through a six-digit pairing code and mTLS for encrypted communication.
