risk mitigation strategies across MassMutual's advisory and securities business. The consultant will partner with Compliance, Legal, Supervision, and Field leaders to provide actionable insights that strengthen supervisory practices, support regulatory compliance, and protect both advisors and clients. Key responsibilities include evaluating FINRA and SEC annual guidance and disciplinary actions, analyzing company-level data to establish Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and conducting in-depth reviews of advisors who meet or exceed KRI thresholds. Why It's Important?

The increasing scrutiny from bodies like FINRA and the SEC, particularly concerning regulations like Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI), necessitates robust risk management practices. By proactively identifying and mitigating sales practice risks, MassMutual can prevent potential legal and financial penalties, safeguard client assets, and preserve trust. The role's focus on data analysis and KRI development signifies a commitment to a proactive, evidence-based approach to risk management, moving beyond reactive measures. This not only helps in adhering to current regulations but also prepares the company for future regulatory changes, ensuring long-term stability and ethical conduct across its advisory and securities operations. Effective risk management directly impacts client confidence and the overall integrity of the financial advisory services provided.
What's Next?
MassMutual will continue to accept applications for the Risk Management Consultant position. Once hired, the consultant will immediately begin evaluating regulatory guidance, analyzing company data to establish KRIs, and conducting targeted reviews of advisor activities. The consultant will be expected to collaborate closely with various internal departments, including Compliance, Legal, and Field Supervision, to implement and refine risk mitigation strategies. Ongoing responsibilities will include preparing detailed reports, consulting with Regional Supervisory Directors, and ensuring that supervisory documentation is complete and addresses identified risk areas. The consultant will also stay updated on the evolving regulatory landscape to ensure MassMutual's practices remain compliant and effective. This continuous effort aims to strengthen supervisory controls and enhance the protection of both advisors and clients.
