What's Happening?
Sunbrella is set to launch Velvet Allure, its inaugural fabric line designed exclusively for interior applications, at the Interwoven Textile Fair in High Point, scheduled from November 17–19, 2026. This new collection will be presented alongside over
20 additional new patterns. Velvet Allure will be available in 20 distinct colorways, engineered to replicate the depth, drape, and texture commonly associated with traditional velvet. The fabric boasts inherent stain resistance and bleach cleanability, meeting ACT standards for pilling and abrasion. Furthermore, it is GREENGUARD GOLD certified and comes with a five-year limited warranty. The broader range of new patterns aims to reinterpret classic textile designs with contemporary updates in color, texture, construction, and overall design, providing partners with expanded interior design options that prioritize both aesthetic appeal and performance.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Velvet Allure marks a strategic expansion for Sunbrella into the dedicated interior fabric market, signaling a move to capture a larger share of the residential and commercial design sectors. By offering a product that combines the luxurious feel of traditional velvet with the brand's renowned performance characteristics—such as stain resistance and durability—Sunbrella aims to meet a growing consumer demand for high-quality, low-maintenance interior textiles. This development could influence interior design trends, encouraging the use of performance fabrics in more sophisticated and high-end applications. For designers and furniture manufacturers, it provides a new material option that promises longevity and ease of care, potentially reducing long-term costs and increasing customer satisfaction. The GREENGUARD GOLD certification also aligns with increasing industry focus on sustainable and healthy indoor environments, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers and specifiers.
What's Next?
Following its debut at the Interwoven Textile Fair, Velvet Allure will likely become available to interior designers, furniture manufacturers, and retailers. Sunbrella will probably initiate marketing campaigns to promote the new line, highlighting its unique blend of luxury and performance. The company may also seek to secure partnerships with key players in the interior design and furniture industries to integrate Velvet Allure into new collections and projects. The reception of Velvet Allure at the fair and in the market will likely influence Sunbrella's future product development strategies, potentially leading to further expansion of its interior-specific fabric offerings. Competitors in the textile industry may also respond by developing their own performance-oriented luxury fabrics to maintain market share.
Beyond the Headlines
This move by Sunbrella reflects a broader trend in the textile industry where the lines between indoor and outdoor fabrics are blurring, driven by consumer desire for versatile, durable, and easy-to-maintain materials throughout their living spaces. The emphasis on performance features like stain resistance and bleach cleanability in a luxury-oriented fabric like velvet suggests a shift in consumer expectations, where practicality is now as valued as aesthetics, even in high-end products. This could lead to a re-evaluation of traditional fabric classifications and manufacturing processes across the industry. Furthermore, the GREENGUARD GOLD certification underscores the increasing importance of health and environmental considerations in material selection, pushing manufacturers to adopt more sustainable practices and transparent product labeling. This could set a new standard for luxury textiles, where performance and environmental responsibility become integral components of perceived value.
