What's Happening?
Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) is scheduled to take place from August 3 to 7, 2026, marking its 20th anniversary. The Spring/Summer 2027 (SS27) edition will feature 36 shows and presentations across various venues in Copenhagen, showcasing collections
from established Scandinavian brands and international newcomers. This edition is anticipated to host the largest number of visitors in the event's history. Highlights include an International Guest Slot featuring New York label Collina Strada, a runway show by Institution (winner of the Zalando Visionary Award 2026 and LVMH Prize Finalist), and the CPHFW NEWTALENT program introducing Anne Sofie Madsen, Stem, and Studio Constance. Additionally, One To Watch Slots are designated for Sson, Renè, and Taus. The official schedule will be released in July 2026, with all major shows live-streamed on the official website and on large screens throughout the city.
Why It's Important?
Copenhagen Fashion Week has established itself as a leader in sustainable fashion, setting stringent requirements for participating brands. All brands must meet specific sustainability criteria, including using at least 50% sustainable materials, committing to zero destruction of unsold goods, and ensuring fully waste-free runway sets. These standards are independently verified, and CPHFW actively collaborates with organizations like the British Fashion Council, the Norwegian Fashion Hub, and Amsterdam Fashion Week to promote its sustainability agenda internationally. This commitment influences global fashion industry practices by demonstrating a viable model for integrating environmental responsibility with high fashion. The inclusion of international labels like Collina Strada, supported by The Climate Pledge, further underscores the event's growing global influence and its role in fostering sustainable practices across borders.
What's Next?
The full official schedule for Copenhagen Fashion Week SS27 is expected to be released in July 2026. This will detail the specific dates and times for the 36 shows and presentations, including those from established brands like By Malene Birger, Stine Goya, Mfpen, Alectra Rothschild/Masculina, and Marimekko, as well as new additions such as Almada Label and Yours Truly by Peter Jensen. Public presentations and events will be held throughout Copenhagen, offering various opportunities for general audiences to participate, with many being free or accessible for a symbolic donation. The live streaming of major shows will ensure broad accessibility for industry professionals and fashion enthusiasts worldwide, further solidifying CPHFW's reach and impact.
Beyond the Headlines
The 20th anniversary of Copenhagen Fashion Week signifies a significant milestone in the evolution of fashion events, particularly in its pioneering role in sustainability. The event's strict sustainability requirements challenge the traditional fast-fashion model and encourage a broader industry shift towards more ethical and environmentally conscious practices. By fostering new talent through programs like CPHFW NEWTALENT and integrating international designers, the event not only promotes Scandinavian design but also facilitates a global dialogue on the future of fashion. The emphasis on public accessibility through live streams and city-wide events democratizes fashion, making it more inclusive and engaging for a wider audience beyond industry insiders.
