What's Happening?
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has launched the 2026 IRS Nationwide Tax Forum Online, offering tax professionals access to over a dozen new seminars. These seminars, recorded at the recent IRS Nationwide Tax Forum, provide opportunities for tax professionals to earn
continuing education credits. The online platform aims to keep tax professionals updated on current tax law, IRS procedures, and essential topics for the upcoming tax season. The offerings include 12 seminars of 50 minutes each and three seminars of 100 minutes each, featuring interactive video presentations synchronized with PowerPoint slides, downloadable resources, and full transcripts. IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano emphasized the importance of tax professionals in the nation's tax system and highlighted that these updated seminars support the IRS's transformation into a 'Digital-First' agency by providing timely updates on emerging areas of tax law.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is crucial for maintaining the proficiency and knowledge base of tax professionals across the United States. As tax laws and IRS procedures evolve, continuous education ensures that tax preparers can accurately advise clients and navigate complex regulations, thereby promoting compliance and reducing errors. The availability of these seminars online makes professional development more accessible, especially for those who could not attend the in-person forum. By offering continuing education credits, the IRS incentivizes professionals to stay current, which directly benefits taxpayers by ensuring they receive accurate and up-to-date tax assistance. This program also supports the IRS's broader goal of digital transformation, leveraging technology to disseminate critical information and training to a wide audience of tax practitioners, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax system.
What's Next?
Tax professionals can now access the 15 new seminars by logging into or creating an account on the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum Online website. Each 50-minute seminar offers one continuing education credit for a fee of $29, while 100-minute seminars offer two credits for $58. Professionals also have the option to audit courses for free without receiving credits. The new seminars cover a range of topics, including Circular 230, data breaches, digital asset reporting, refundable credits, IRS collection cases, audit navigation, new capabilities for business tax professionals, retirement plan updates, emerging schemes, dispute resolution, and tax law changes for Tax Year 2026. The IRS Nationwide Tax Forum Online is registered with relevant professional bodies, ensuring the credits are recognized for enrolled agents, certified public accountants, and Annual Filing Season Program participants.
Beyond the Headlines
The ongoing professional development of tax practitioners through programs like the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum Online has broader implications for the integrity and efficiency of the U.S. tax system. Well-informed tax professionals act as a critical bridge between the IRS and taxpayers, helping to demystify complex tax codes and ensure accurate filings. This continuous learning environment also helps in identifying and addressing emerging tax issues, such as those related to digital assets, which are rapidly changing the financial landscape. Furthermore, by emphasizing digital access and online resources, the IRS is not only modernizing its outreach but also fostering a more digitally literate tax professional community. This shift can lead to more streamlined interactions with the IRS, reduced processing times, and ultimately, a more compliant and efficient tax administration system nationwide.
