What's Happening?
Space Forge, a UK-headquartered microgravity manufacturer, has chosen The Texas A&M University System as the location for its first U.S. facility dedicated to advanced semiconductor materials. This agreement establishes a framework for research collaboration
and future joint projects, aiming to develop semiconductor materials that are difficult to produce with the same quality on Earth. Texas A&M was selected due to its existing semiconductor infrastructure, including cleanrooms, material processing and characterization facilities, research capabilities, and access to a skilled workforce. Space Forge will collaborate with the Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute and AggieFab Nanofabrication Facility. The initial focus will be on terrestrial material growth, characterization, and processing, with plans to expand into broader joint research opportunities across the Texas A&M System over the next 12 to 24 months.

This partnership is a significant step in strengthening the U.S. domestic capacity for advanced semiconductor materials, aligning with national efforts to reduce vulnerabilities in critical technology supply chains. Over the next one to two years, the partnership is expected to expand into wider joint research opportunities across the Texas A&M System. This phased approach aims to establish a terrestrial foundation for Space Forge's U.S. operations while potentially creating a pathway to integrate its space-based materials technology into the North American semiconductor supply chain. The long-term goal is to establish Space Forge's first U.S. semiconductor materials manufacturing facility, which will contribute to both advanced material development and workforce development in Texas. The success of this partnership could serve as a model for future collaborations between international advanced technology firms and U.S. academic institutions.
