What's Happening?
DRC Industries, a packaging solutions provider, is set to invest $4 million in a new facility in Columbus, Mississippi. This investment will create 50 jobs in Lowndes County, as part of the company's expansion in the Golden Triangle region. The Kentucky-based
company will utilize an existing facility to enhance its production of industrial packaging products, such as corner boards, paper tubes, and chipboard sheeting. The decision to locate in Columbus was influenced by the area's transportation advantages, including access to ports, rail, and trucking networks. The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is supporting the project through its Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program.
Why It's Important?
The investment by DRC Industries is significant for Mississippi's economy, particularly in the Golden Triangle region, which has been a focus for industrial growth. The creation of 50 jobs will provide new opportunities for local residents and contribute to the economic development of Lowndes County. The project aligns with Mississippi's strengths in infrastructure and supply chain assets, making it an attractive location for manufacturing companies. This development is part of a broader trend of industrial growth in the region, supported by state and local economic developers. The presence of major industrial projects, such as Steel Dynamics and Aluminum Dynamics, has helped attract suppliers and complementary industries, further boosting the local economy.
What's Next?
The new facility in Columbus will support DRC Industries' existing customers in the region and allow the company to better serve Southern markets. The company plans to collaborate with local workforce partners, including the WIN Job Center and East Mississippi Community College, to recruit employees. The investment is expected to strengthen the local economy and create new opportunities for residents. Local leaders, including Columbus Mayor Stephen Jones and Lowndes County Board of Supervisors President Trip Hairston, have welcomed the investment, highlighting the area's business climate and partnerships among local and state leaders.
