What's Happening?
Sierra Balgar, the founder of City Girl Golf, experienced burnout from the demands of growing her company and took a two-month break in Vietnam to recharge. Balgar, who started her business in May 2023, found herself overwhelmed by the constant travel,
event planning, and relationship building required to maintain her company's success. Despite taking vacations, she realized she was not truly resting. Inspired by social media, she chose Vietnam for its affordability and cultural appeal, booking a one-way ticket to Hoi An. During her stay, she embraced a slower lifestyle, focusing on rest and routine, which included early morning workouts and exploring local attractions. This break allowed her to reflect on her business strategies and return with fresh ideas and a new perspective on success.
Why It's Important?
Balgar's experience highlights the growing issue of burnout among entrepreneurs and the importance of self-care in maintaining personal and professional well-being. Her story underscores the need for business leaders to prioritize mental health and balance in their lives. By stepping away from her business, Balgar was able to gain clarity and develop strategies for sustainable growth that do not solely rely on her constant involvement. This approach can serve as a model for other entrepreneurs facing similar challenges, emphasizing the value of taking time to recharge and reassess business goals.
What's Next?
Balgar's return to the U.S. marks a new chapter for her business, City Girl Golf. With a renewed focus on creating systems that allow for breaks without guilt, she aims to implement changes that support both her personal well-being and the company's growth. Her experience in Vietnam may inspire other entrepreneurs to consider similar breaks to prevent burnout and foster innovation. As more business leaders recognize the benefits of slowing down, there could be a shift towards more sustainable business practices that prioritize mental health and work-life balance.
