Worldline, ING, and Mastercard have successfully executed Europe's first live, end-to-end agentic transaction, marking a significant milestone in AI-driven commerce. This transaction involved an AI agent autonomously purchasing goods on behalf of a consumer,
with the entire process being traceable and secure. The pilot project, conducted at Money20/20 Europe, demonstrated the potential for AI to streamline and automate retail transactions. The system ensures transparency by embedding identifiers in transaction metadata, allowing banks to maintain control over authentication. This development paves the way for more widespread adoption of AI in commerce, with potential applications in subscription models and micro-purchases.
