DHL Global Forwarding France has partnered with Vela to offer a new transatlantic shipping service using a wind-powered cargo ship. The service, set to launch in early 2027, will operate between France and the United States, providing a sustainable alternative
for transporting goods. The ship, a trimaran designed by VPLP and MerConcept, will be the first of its kind, offering stability and speed with an average of 14 knots. The vessel will be 100% wind-powered, achieving a 99% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. It will have a capacity of 415 metric tons and will be equipped with temperature control, making it suitable for high-value goods such as pharmaceuticals and luxury items.
