Richards Building Supply (RBS), a wholesale distributor of building materials operating in 12 states with 60 locations, has implemented Descartes Route Planner on Demand and Mobile Proof of Delivery solutions to improve its fleet management and delivery
efficiency. Previously, RBS relied on a manual, paper-based system for managing its fleet of several hundred vehicles, which offered limited visibility and often led to inefficiencies. The new technology-based solution from Descartes Systems Group allows RBS to create optimized and safe delivery routes, confirm delivery timing and accuracy, and track various delivery metrics. This transition involved extensive training for dispatchers, customer service employees, and drivers, with a dedicated project manager and a team of super users ensuring a smooth nine-month rollout. The system also enables drivers to capture digital signatures and pictures at job sites, providing proof of delivery and helping to prevent false claims of damage or missing materials.
