What's Happening?
Hechicero secured a victory over AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin at CMLL’s Día de Muertos: Rey del Inframundo event on Friday night at Arena Mexico. Hechicero, the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion, pinned Allin after a guillotine leg drop, marking a loss
for Allin in his CMLL debut. This win provided Hechicero with revenge, as Allin had previously defeated him on AEW Collision on October 14. Their rivalry also saw them in a trios match at AEW Grand Slam Mexico, where Allin, Místico, and Chris Jericho defeated Hechicero, Kazuchika Okada, and Kevin Knight.
Why It's Important?
Hechicero's victory over Darby Allin in a high-profile CMLL event highlights the ongoing cross-promotional interactions between AEW and CMLL, which are significant for both companies. These collaborations allow wrestlers from different promotions to compete, creating unique matchups and expanding their respective fan bases. For CMLL, hosting an AEW champion like Darby Allin elevates the prestige of their events. For AEW, it provides international exposure for its talent and allows for fresh storylines. The past involvement of Kazuchika Okada in a trios match further underscores the global nature of these wrestling alliances.
What's Next?
The rivalry between Hechicero and Darby Allin, now with a win for Hechicero, could potentially lead to future encounters, either in CMLL or AEW. These cross-promotional matches often build anticipation for rematches or further collaborations. The continued exchange of talent between AEW and CMLL suggests that fans can expect more unique matchups and storyline developments that bridge the two promotions, enhancing the overall wrestling landscape.
Beyond the Headlines
The increasing frequency of cross-promotional matches, particularly between major companies like AEW and CMLL, signifies a shift in the professional wrestling industry. This trend moves away from strict territorial boundaries and towards a more collaborative and interconnected global scene. Such partnerships benefit fans by offering diverse wrestling styles and dream matches, while also providing wrestlers with opportunities to showcase their skills on different stages. The involvement of international stars like Kazuchika Okada in these events further solidifies the global appeal and interconnectedness of modern professional wrestling.
