What's Happening?
Recent purity tests conducted by The Soapery have revealed that grapeseed oil products from major retailers are not pure. Tests conducted in 2023 and again in 2025 showed that none of the samples were pure grapeseed oil. The latest tests found that some
samples were diluted with sunflower oil, while others contained no grapeseed oil at all, being entirely composed of sunflower and soybean oils. This discovery raises concerns about product labeling and the integrity of supply chains in the cosmetics industry. The Soapery's founder, Andy, has called for the industry to clean up their supply chains and ensure the purity of their products.
Why It's Important?
The findings from The Soapery's tests highlight a significant issue in the cosmetics industry regarding product authenticity and consumer trust. The adulteration of grapeseed oil not only misleads consumers but also affects the quality and efficacy of cosmetic products that claim to contain this ingredient. This situation underscores the need for stricter regulations and transparency in the supply chain to protect consumers and maintain industry standards. Companies using grapeseed oil in their products must reassess their suppliers and verify the purity of their ingredients to uphold their brand reputation and consumer trust.
