What's Happening?
X-energy, a prominent U.S. designer of advanced small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) and fuel technology, has finalized an agreement with Centrus to secure a supply of High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU). This strategic partnership aims to support
an 11.5 GW pipeline of X-energy's planned Xe-100 advanced reactors. The agreement involves Centrus providing enrichment services for both Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) and HALEU. The HALEU, enriched at Centrus's American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, will be supplied to X-energy's fuel subsidiary, TRISO-X, LLC, for the fabrication of TRISO-X coated particle fuel at its facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This collaboration is designed to de-risk X-energy's Xe-100 projects and ensure a long-term, resilient fuel supply for its commercial pipeline.
