What's Happening?
Plateau International, a luxury sales representation company, has announced the appointment of Jay Warren as its new sales director for USA and Canada. This strategic hire is part of the company's expansion efforts in the North American market. Warren brings
30 years of industry experience, including 15 years with Abercrombie & Kent, where he most recently served as vice president of trade sales USA. In his new role, Warren will be responsible for developing trade sales in the U.S. and Canada, working with travel advisors, agencies, tour operators, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) specialists. Concurrently, Plateau International has added three new hospitality clients to its portfolio: The Hari Singapore, KK Collection in Sri Lanka, and Les Clos des Martines in Normandy, France. The Hari Singapore is slated to open in the first half of 2027 with 326 rooms.
Why It's Important?
This expansion by Plateau International signifies a growing confidence in the luxury travel market within the U.S. and Canada. The appointment of an experienced professional like Jay Warren indicates a strategic focus on strengthening relationships with North American travel trade partners, which is crucial for driving bookings and increasing market share for luxury hospitality brands. For U.S. travel advisors and tour operators, this means access to a broader portfolio of high-end international properties, enhancing their ability to offer unique and personalized experiences to affluent clients. The addition of new clients, particularly The Hari Singapore, reflects the continued demand for exclusive international travel options among American consumers. This development could stimulate competition within the luxury travel representation sector in the U.S., potentially leading to improved services and more diverse offerings for the American travel industry.
What's Next?
Jay Warren will immediately begin his role as sales director for USA and Canada, focusing on building and strengthening relationships with key travel trade partners across North America. His efforts will be directed towards promoting Plateau International's expanded portfolio of luxury properties, including the newly added clients. The company anticipates that Warren's extensive experience will significantly boost its presence and sales performance in the U.S. and Canadian markets. This strategic move is expected to lead to increased bookings for the represented hotels and resorts from North American travelers. Plateau International's founder and managing director, Marco Rosa, emphasized that this appointment is a key step in strengthening the company's North American presence, indicating further growth and investment in the region are likely.
Beyond the Headlines
The strategic expansion of luxury travel representation companies like Plateau International into the U.S. and Canadian markets reflects a broader trend in the post-pandemic travel industry: the resilience and growth of the high-net-worth travel segment. While mass tourism faced significant disruptions, luxury travelers have shown a strong propensity to resume international travel, often seeking unique, personalized, and exclusive experiences. This trend is driving demand for specialized representation that can connect discerning travelers with bespoke properties. The focus on "meaningful support, strong on-the-ground partnerships and products that are easy to position, recommend and sell" highlights the evolving needs of travel advisors who require comprehensive resources to cater to this demanding clientele. This shift could further solidify the role of expert travel advisors in the luxury segment, as they become even more critical in curating complex and high-value travel itineraries.
