What's Happening?
Jotun COSCO Marine Coatings (JCMC) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with COSCO SHIPPING Bulk to cover 125 newbuilding bulk carriers. This agreement was formalized during the Global Partners Conference held by COSCO SHIPPING in Boao, Hainan. The
collaboration aims to enhance vessel efficiency through advanced hull performance solutions, aligning with Jotun's Clean Shipping Commitment to reduce carbon emissions, protect biodiversity, and conserve fuel. The fleet will be equipped with high-performance antifouling coating systems to reduce resistance, optimize fuel consumption, and lower emissions. Additionally, selected vessels will be evaluated for Hull Skating Solutions (HSS) to further improve energy efficiency and environmental performance.
Why It's Important?
This agreement is significant as it represents a strategic move towards more sustainable shipping operations, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon footprints in the maritime industry. By enhancing vessel efficiency, the partnership supports COSCO SHIPPING Bulk's low-carbon development roadmap and demonstrates a commitment to advancing sustainable shipping practices. The use of advanced hull performance solutions not only contributes to environmental conservation but also offers economic benefits by optimizing fuel consumption and reducing operational costs. This collaboration could set a precedent for other shipping companies to adopt similar sustainable practices, potentially influencing industry standards and regulations.
