What's Happening?
A new project aims to validate the use of kite sails for towing operations on a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel during its journey from China to Suriname. The GranMorgu FPSO, constructed by SBM Offshore and Technip Energies, will
be Suriname's first large-scale offshore oil development. The project involves a collaboration with Beyond the Sea to develop and test a Wind Assisted Towing System (WATS) on the vessel. The initiative seeks to reduce towing duration and fuel consumption, marking a significant step in maritime decarbonization efforts.
