Governor Greg Abbott announced that Saronic Technologies, Inc. will build a next-generation shipyard, Port Alpha, at the Port of Brownsville. This facility is expected to be the largest shipyard in the U.S., focusing on the production of medium- and large-class
autonomous vessels. The project represents a $3.248 billion capital investment and is anticipated to create 10,000 new jobs. The Texas Enterprise Fund has granted $80 million to support this expansion, which is also part of the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program. Saronic Technologies, founded in Austin in 2022, aims to enhance the U.S. maritime industrial base and national security through this development.
