What's Happening?
Benevity has launched new integrations for its corporate purpose platform, allowing employees to engage in giving and volunteering directly within Microsoft Teams. This development aims to bridge the gap between employees' intent to contribute to social
causes and their actual participation. Previously, employees had to navigate away from their collaboration tools to a separate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform, often leading to missed opportunities for engagement. With the new Benevity for Microsoft Teams app, employees can discover opportunities, engage instantly, and complete actions such as signing up for volunteering shifts, signing waivers, adding events to calendars, or making donations through various company-supported methods like Company Rewards, Personal Balance, or Payroll Deduction. This integration is designed to make social impact a seamless part of the daily employee experience, leveraging the tools where employees already spend most of their workday. Benevity also announced upcoming integrations for Slack and QR codes for deskless workers, further expanding accessibility.
Why It's Important?
This integration is significant for U.S. businesses and their corporate social responsibility initiatives. By embedding giving and volunteering directly into widely used collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams, Benevity is addressing a key challenge in corporate philanthropy: employee engagement. The easier it is for employees to participate, the more likely they are to do so, fostering a 'virtuous cycle' of giving. This can lead to increased donations and volunteer hours for non-profits, strengthening community support. For companies, it signals that employee values are important, which can build trust and enhance employee satisfaction and retention. The ability to act on an impulse to give or volunteer without leaving their primary workflow can transform how corporate purpose programs operate, moving beyond annual campaigns to continuous, organic engagement. This shift can also improve the efficiency and reach of CSR programs, connecting employees to a network of over 2.5 million validated non-profits.
What's Next?
Benevity plans to extend these integrations to Slack, allowing employees who use that platform to engage in similar giving and volunteering activities. Additionally, the company will introduce QR codes for deskless workers, enabling them to participate in social impact initiatives with a simple scan and no login required. These future developments aim to further democratize access to corporate giving and volunteering opportunities, ensuring that a broader range of employees, regardless of their work environment, can easily contribute. The continued expansion of these tools suggests a trend towards making social impact an intrinsic part of the modern workplace, driven by technology that removes barriers to participation. Companies utilizing Benevity's platform can expect to see increased employee engagement in their CSR efforts as these integrations become more widespread and accessible.
Beyond the Headlines
The integration of corporate giving into daily collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams and Slack represents a deeper shift in how businesses approach social responsibility and employee engagement. It highlights the growing recognition that purpose-driven work is not just a separate initiative but an integral part of company culture and employee well-being. By making giving and volunteering as accessible as sending a message, companies are subtly reinforcing a culture of empathy and collective action. This approach could lead to a more sustained and impactful form of corporate philanthropy, moving beyond episodic campaigns to continuous, employee-led contributions. Furthermore, it underscores the power of technology to facilitate social good, transforming digital workspaces into platforms for positive societal change. This trend could also influence how companies measure and report on their social impact, with more granular data on employee participation and contributions becoming available.
