Honda has announced a partnership with QuantumScape, an American battery development firm, to advance solid-state battery technology. This collaboration is part of Honda's strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The partnership aims to prioritize
the development of solid-state batteries over existing electric vehicle (EV) technologies. Honda has been investing in this technology since 2024, with plans to produce battery prototypes at its facility in Sakura City, Japan. The collaboration with QuantumScape is expected to leverage the latter's Eagle Line facility to produce anode-free, lithium-metal QSE-5 solid-state battery cells. These cells were first showcased in a Ducati V21L motorcycle prototype. Honda executives believe that this technology could potentially double the range of current EV models by the end of the decade.
