Hyundai Motor Group is set to construct its first U.S. steel mill, HYUNDAI-POSCO Louisiana Steel LLC (HPLS), in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, which will be built
on 7.37 million square meters (2.23 million pyeong) of former sugarcane fields, took place recently. This new steel mill is projected to produce 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually, with mass production scheduled to commence in 2029. The strategic location in Riverplex Megapark offers logistical advantages, including access to the Mississippi River and a main railway line, facilitating the transport of raw materials and finished products.
