What's Happening?
Two local community colleges in Illinois, Parkland College in Champaign and Lake Land College in Mattoon, are among five downstate institutions receiving capital grant money from the state to establish and equip new Manufacturing Training Academies. Parkland College has
been awarded a $6 million grant to develop a training facility focused on bio-manufacturing and metal fabrication. Lake Land College will utilize a $3 million grant to construct an academy dedicated to training workers in automation and robotics. Governor JB Pritzker stated that these new training academies are designed to help more Illinoisans acquire in-demand skills, thereby providing manufacturers with stronger incentives to maintain and expand job opportunities within the state. Additional state grant funding will support the launch of similar academies at Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Kaskaskia College in Centralia, and Lewis & Clark College in Godfrey, building upon existing state-funded academies at Richland Community College and Heartland Community College.
