What's Happening?
The IFC Center, in collaboration with IndieCollect, is hosting a nine-day film retrospective titled 'Declaration of Independents!' This event is part of the America250 celebration, which marks the 250th anniversary of the United States. The series, running
from July 1 to July 9, 2026, features 20 films that highlight the creative freedom of American independent filmmakers from the era of 1979-1989. Spike Lee's 'School Daze' will kick off the series, with the director present for a Q&A session. Other notable films include Steven Soderbergh's 'sex, lies, and videotape' and Errol Morris' 'The Thin Blue Line'. Several directors will introduce their films in person, providing audiences with unique insights into their works.
